RSF rebels shell town in Southern Sudan, killing over 40 people

Cairo, Nov 6 (UNI/SPUTNIK) Forty-three people were killed and 37 others were injured when the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) shelled the town of Barah in Sudan's North Kurdufan province, Al Jazeera reported, citing a local humanitarian aid commission.
On October 26, RSF rebels said that they had seized control of the headquarters of the Sudanese army's 6th Infantry Division in Al Fashir, following 18 months of fighting for the city, which had been the government's main stronghold in North Darfur. Last Tuesday, Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese army Abdel Fattah al-Burhan announced the withdrawal of troops from the city.
On October 29, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that incoming information about mass human rights violations in the capital of North Darfur caused deep concern, adding that Moscow supports a peaceful settlement of the Sudanese conflict.
Fierce fighting between the RSF and the regular army has been ongoing in Sudan since April 2023. In March, the army announced that it had pushed rebels out of the capital, Khartoum. The RSF stepped up attacks in western and southern Sudan in April, declaring the formation of a rival government.
